The Spark of a Strike became a Flame
In 1909 shirt waist workers from through out the city began picketing and striking the bad conditions in their workplaces. They petitioned for shorter hours, higher wages, and most of all the recognition of a union. Many factory owners gave into the demands to get their workers back, in fear of losing money with the lack of production. But the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory owners, never did. Their situation remained deplorable.
